Today not Tomorrow - Time To Preach the gospel

Have you ever felt the nudging of the Holy Spirit to witness to someone He brings across your path, but then you respond with a soft but sure – I’ll do it; tomorrow.

There are some tomorrow excuses that are just too dangerous and which should be done away with. Especially after you consider the testimony below from a colleague in my office.

It’s quite important to me that I keep my nails in tip top shape all the time. So I have a manicure / pedicure done mostly once a month. In recent months I’ve had it done in a salon by one Alhaja (name withheld). In November I noticed she had restless leg and I had to ask her what was wrong. She responded that she had an accident a few weeks back which affected her leg.

I felt moved to pray for her. So I lay my hands on her knee and asked God to heal her. That’s when I heard the Holy Spirit whisper in me. “Is that all? Aren’t you going to share the love of Jesus with her?”

I don’t have a doubt that I have a special calling to evangelise and bring people to Jesus. But I really hadn’t just thought of that, so I was grateful for the Holy Ghost’s prompting.

I spoke with her and was pleasantly surprised when she accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour. She confessed however that she wouldn’t be able to go to church because of her husband. I then directed her to attend a Christian house fellowship close by.

God Still Saves From The Lion's Den

A couple of Sunday's back, a woman in her late thirties gave a testimony in church.

On a particular public holiday, she decided to take her eight year old son to her shop in Lagos to enable her spend some quality time with him. She shared the day between fellowshipping with him and attending to her clients. Sometime in the afternoon however, she looked up and realised he wasn't in the shop. No cause for alarm, he was probably in one of the other shops closeby.

But he wasn't. She searched and searched and by the end of the day had to go home without him. For the next three days, she almost became mad with worry and intense fear. He was her only child, how could she lose him. Visits to the hospital, police stations, relatives produced no results.

On her way to the border to follow up on a lead, she received a call - her son had been kidnapped and would only be released on payment of a massive ransom. She felt as if her life was over. And so it seemed because after that there was no follow up call for the next 24 hours.

TOO NOBLE TO WORK?

God is a builder. He’s building His kingdom, he builds homes, hearts, His church. He builds our lives and makes us what he wants us to be. He is the master builder but graciously calls us His co-labourers.
There is a lot to build but most of the work that has to be done will not be done directly by God himself: he will use you and I.

Amongst many other projects, God decided to rebuild Jerusalem during the 20th year of Artaxerxes (Nehemiah 2:1). The Israelites had just been released from slavery and their country was in ruins. So God put a burden in the heart of Nehemiah to lead the charge for change and granted him the favour of the king who provided all the materials he needed.

The work progressed very well with several groups of people working with him and strengthening his hands. The bible talks about the Goldsmiths, the priests, the merchants and the families who all put their best into doing God’s work.

However in Nehemiah 3:5, the bible says, “Next to them the Tekonites made repairs, but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work of their Lord.”

Everyone contributed their quota except the Nobles...
